After studying AI in grad school at Yale, my first job was at a Carnegie Mellon spinoff, an AI startup, where I was part of the founding team. We worked side by side with our customers, learning their workflows and capturing them in the software. We kept a tight feedback loop, flying back out to install each new version. Today you'd call that being a forward deployed engineer. Co-founding Startup Monthly, a pre-accelerator, was another step on my path to venture, and where I discovered the San Francisco startup ecosystem.
